Introduction to Order Types | OrderCounter Knowledge Base

What are Order Types?

Order types change how the system behaves. For example, if you choose “Takeout,” the first screen will ask you to choose a customer. If you choose “Table order,” it will ask you to choose a table. This is an important part of the system and should not be overlooked.

Order types are set per terminal. You can have multiple order types per terminal, or you can restrict one terminal to one order type.
Configuration
Order Types can be configured from the Terminal Settings. Setting an Order Type to "On" will have it appear on the Order Screen.

You also have an option called “Order Start.” This is where you can choose which order type will be used by default when you first log in. Selecting “None” will allow you to choose from any of the order types you have enabled.

Table Service
Table Service is a special way to handle orders when you are serving customers at tables in a restaurant.

Here’s how it works and how you can use it.

When Table Service is turned on, a diagram of the tables in your restaurant will appear when you log in. This diagram helps you keep track of where customers are sitting and what they’ve ordered. Each table has a status that indicates whether it is open, in use, and more.

Taking Orders
  1. Selecting a Table
    1. Click on the table where your customers are seated.
  2. Adding Menu Items
    1. After selecting a table, you can start adding food and drinks to the order.
    2. There’s a button called "Send Order." When you click it, the order goes straight to the kitchen, and the kitchen staff starts making the food right away.

When it’s time to pay, go to the "Manage Tickets" section. You can pay for the whole order or split the check if customers want to pay separately.

Managing the Table
If you need to go back to a table’s order, log in and select the same table again.
Here’s what you can do with the order:
  1. Print
    1. Prints the check to give to the customer.
  2. Pay
    1. Takes you to the payment screen, where you can process the payment.
  3. Move
    1. Moves an order to another table or turns it into a bar tab if the customer moves to the bar.
  4. No Tax
    1. Makes the order tax-free if needed..
  5. Edit
    1. Takes you back to the order screen, where you can add or remove items from the order.
Setting Up Table Service
You can adjust Table Service settings in the back office by following these steps:
  1. Go to Back Office
    1. This is where you manage all your restaurant settings.
  2. Navigate to Settings
    1. Find the "Settings" menu, then choose "POS."
  3. Select Table Service
    1. Here, you can adjust various settings to make Table Service work best for your restaurant.

Retail

Retail is an order type designed for a retail environment. It is similar to quick service, but it allows you to save and send an order before payment is made. It will, however, warn you that you are submitting the order without payment and ask if you want to continue.

When you save and send, a slip will print as a request for payment.

Idea

The intended purpose for this function is so that if a customer forgets their wallet or purse you can send the order, serve another customer and then pull up the order again without having to re-ring all the items.

To retrieve a saved order, go to Pending Orders > Retail.

Edit - TTakes you to the Order Screen where you can make changes.

Cancel - Removes the order from the system.
Checkout - Takes you to the checkout screen.
Takeout

There is already a “To Go” order type, but Takeout goes further. It is designed for managing orders placed over the phone or at the counter by customers who will pick up the food.

You will be prompted to enter customer information, similar to the Delivery order type.

Info
Only a name and phone number is required.

You can also search for an existing customer by typing either the customer name or the phone number in the “Select a Customer” box

If you do select an existing customer their previous orders will be shown in the “Previous orders window”

Quote
3 Options:

Continue with default – Creates a takeout order without entering customer info.

Continue and add order – You get this option if you’ve selected a previous order from an existing customer.

NotesThe items in the order you selected will be added to the check.

Continue – Takes you to the order screen without adding items from a previous order.

Once all menu items are entered, you can Save and Send the order or pay using the checkout button. If you save and send, the system will ask if you want to submit the order without payment. Once confirmed, it will print the order and a receipt as a request for payment, which can be presented to the customer upon collection.

If you use the checkout option, it will ask if you want to mark the order as picked up. This is because the customer could be ordering over the phone or at the store. If marked as picked up, it will no longer show in pending orders.

When customers are ready to pay for a Takeout order, you can find the order in Pending Orders > Takeout.

Orders are assumed ready to collect 15 mins after order. They will be white before this and red after.
There is a caller ID option which requires a piece of hardware and will allow you to look up customers automatically

Delivery

The Delivery order type is for restaurants that use delivery drivers. It manages the orders and tracks their location.

The first step is entering customer details. When you start typing in the first box, the system will look up existing customers. You can enter a name or phone number. If the customer is new, their details can be added in the fields below.

Info

The minimum information required can be set in Back Office > Settings > Customers and Addresses. Customers can have multiple addresses, so make sure to choose one, or the system will prompt you.

If you enter a new customer's details, they will be saved for future orders. Selecting an existing customer will display their previous orders in the "Previous Order" window. You can continue and add their previous order to the new one or start with a blank order.

If you select a previous order you can click continue and add order. This will add all items in their previous order to the new order. If you Just press continue it will add a blank order.
Notes

Customers can have multiple addresses. Make sure you choose one or you will be prompted to do so.

When you have added the Menu Items to the order you can save and send the order or you can pay for the order using the checkout button.

If you save and send it will ask if you want to submit the order without payment. When confirmed it will print the order as well as a receipt as a request for payment. This can be presented to the customer upon Delivery.

Pending Orders > Delivery will show all current delivery orders.

Notes

You can filter the list by Pending Delivery Orders or Out Delivery Orders

The next step is to sign the order “Out For Delivery” by selecting the orders and pressing this button

Choose a driver from the list and choose “Out for Delivery
InfoIdeaIf the employee has the driver job title assigned, they'll appear on this list. Otherwise, you can click "Show All" to show all employees.

Click "Out For Delivery" to confirm the delivery order.

Bar Tabs

The Bar Tabs order type is a quick service option that allows you to save open tabs for customers.

If you ring up some drinks and pay immediately, it works just like any other quick service option. However, if you press "Save and Send," the system will prompt you to enter a name for the tab. You can also configure the system to pre-authorize a credit card and automatically pull the name from the card.
Info
NFC/Tap/Contactless transactions not currently supported
Once a tab is created, you'll be directed to the Bar Tabs screen, where you can view a list of all open tabs.
Notes
If you log off after entering items, the bar tab will be saved under the customer's name, along with the time it was created and the employee's name.

The following options are available on the Pending Orders screen for managing bar tabs:

Quick Service

The Quick Service order type allows you to choose between “For Here” or “To Go,” making it ideal for environments where both dining options are common.

You can select either “For Here” or “To Go” from the bottom of the screen before hitting the Checkout button. If no option is selected, the system will prompt you to make a choice before proceeding.

For Here
The For Here order type is almost identical to the To Go option, but it is primarily used in quick service restaurants where customers typically dine on-site.

NotesThe order method, "For Here," will be printed on the ticket so that the kitchen knows not to package the food in takeaway containers.

InfoPrint stations are mapped to terminals by order type. This means you can configure For Here orders to print to a different printer than To Go orders, even for the same menu items.

To Go

The To Go order type is primarily used in quick service restaurants where orders are typically for takeaway. This option does not allow you to suspend a sale.

There is no Send Order button because the order is automatically sent when the Checkout button is pressed. If the payment process is not completed, a void ticket will be sent to the kitchen, preventing them from preparing the order.

In the Receipt Template, ensure there is a line for the order method so you can easily identify that the order is "To Go."

You can also configure the system to prompt for a customer name, which will be printed on the ticket, allowing you to call out the name when the order is ready.
