What Are Color Palettes?

Color palettes in the Kitchen Display System (KDS) are predefined collections of colors that control how information appears on your screens. They allow you to customize the visual appearance of tickets, items, and other elements to enhance readability and workflow efficiency.

Why Use Color Palettes?

Color palettes serve several important purposes:
Visual Organization – Quickly distinguish between different types of orders.
Priority Indication – Highlight urgent items that need immediate attention.
Status Tracking – Easily identify the status of orders (new, in progress, ready, etc.).
Workflow Efficiency – Reduce errors and improve kitchen communication.

Applying Color Palettes

Color palettes can be applied to:
Age Thresholds – Change ticket appearance based on how long an order has been in the system.
Ticket Views – Control the default appearance of tickets in different views.
Summary Views – Set the visual style of summary information.
Special States – Define how tickets appear when selected, bumped, or modified.

Best Practices

Use Consistent Colors – Maintain a uniform color scheme across the system.
Consider Contrast – Ensure text is easily readable against background colors.
Develop a Logical Color System – Use colors in a way that staff can easily understand.
Test in Real Conditions – Colors may appear differently under kitchen lighting.
Limit the Number of Palettes – Too many different color schemes can create confusion.

Common Applications of Color Palettes

🔴 Red – Urgent or late orders.
🟢 Green – Completed or ready items.
🟡 Yellow – Orders approaching time thresholds.
🔵 Blue – Special orders or VIP customers.
🍽 Different color schemes – Dine-in vs. takeout orders.

By effectively using color palettes, you can significantly improve kitchen efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance order fulfillment accuracy.
