Bump Settings

Bump Settings

Overview

Bump settings in the Kitchen Display System (KDS) allow you to visually track the status of orders as they move through your kitchen workflow. When a station "bumps" a ticket, it indicates that the station has completed their part of the order. The bump settings control how these bumped tickets appear on your screens.

What is "Bumping"?

Bumping is the action of marking an item or ticket as complete at a specific station. For example:
✔ When the grill finishes cooking a burger, they bump that item to indicate it’s ready for the next station.
✔ When all items in an order are complete, the expediter bumps the ticket to signal it’s ready for pickup.

Age Thresholds and Bump Settings

Each age threshold (time category for tickets) can have multiple bump states, which determine how tickets appear after being bumped by specific stations.

Key Components

Bump States – Different visual states that apply when tickets are bumped from specific stations.
Priority – The order in which bump states are processed (top to bottom).
Color Palettes – Defines the visual appearance of bumped tickets.
Bump Stations – Determines which stations trigger a bump state.

Setting Up Bump States

Creating a New Bump State

  1. Select an Age Threshold from the left panel.
  2. Click the "Add" button under the Bump Settings list.
  3. A new bump state named "New Bump" will appear in the list.
  4. Select the new bump state to configure it.

Configuring a Bump State

Once a bump state is selected, you can configure:

Name – Give your bump state a descriptive name (e.g., "Grill Bumped").
Bump Palette – The color scheme applied to tickets when bumped.
Bump "Blink" Palette – (Optional) Enables a blinking effect for bumped tickets ("<NONE>" to disable).
Bump Stations – Select which stations trigger this bump state.

  • "~ Any Station ~" applies the bump state to any station.
  • Select specific stations for station-specific visual indicators.

Priority and Order

Bump states are processed in order from top to bottom in the list.

Higher priority bump states (top of the list) override lower priority ones.
✔ Use the "Up" and "Down" buttons to adjust priority order.
✔ This is useful when certain stations’ bumps need visual precedence.

Practical Example

Scenario:

You want grill-bumped items to appear brown, while expediter-bumped items should appear green.

Setup:

  1. Create two bump states"Grill Bumped" and "Expo Bumped".
  2. For "Grill Bumped":
    • Set Bump Palette to a brown color palette.
    • Select "Grill" in the Bump Stations list.
  3. For "Expo Bumped":
    • Set Bump Palette to a green color palette.
    • Select "Expo" in the Bump Stations list.
  4. Place "Expo Bumped" above "Grill Bumped" in the list if you want the expediter's bump to take precedence.

Saving Your Settings

After configuring a bump state:
✔ Click the "Save" button to apply changes.
✔ The system will immediately begin using these visual indicators when tickets are bumped.

Tips for Effective Bump Settings

Use distinct color palettes for different stations to easily identify who completed their part of an order.
Consider using blink palettes for critical stations or time-sensitive workflows.
Keep priority order logical – Typically, the final station in your workflow should have the highest priority.
Test bump settings during slower periods to ensure they provide clear visual cues without distractions.

By effectively configuring bump settings, kitchen staff can quickly identify ticket statuses, streamline order flow, and improve overall efficiency.
