ID scanning / Age verification system

OrderCounter has introduced a new age verification system that allows users to require an age (in whole years) for purchase of specific items. If an item requires age verification, the user is prompted to enter a date of birth manually or scan a US Government-issued ID if supported hardware is available.

The behavior is controlled via a new Age Verification Mode setting under Back Office → Settings → POS → General Settings. It can be configured to prompt:

  • The first time an age-restricted item is rung up

  • Every time an age-restricted item is rung up

  • At checkout

Additional override privileges are available for skipping age checks or manually entering birthdates. The scanner that this has been tested and certified with is the Zebra DS9308-D1, although other scanning hardware may also work.
